Patsy Cline was born Virginia Patterson Hensley on September 8, 1932. She quickly became a key part of “The Nashville Sound” during the late 1950’s and early 1960’s. She also crossed over to pop music and was one of the most influential and acclaimed vocalists of the 20th century.
Patsy Cline died on March 5, 1963 in a private plane crash which also took the lives of country music greats Hawkshaw Hawkins, Cowboy Copas and pilot Randy Hughes.
Many of the highest ranked women in Country Music today credit her for being one of their greatest influences including Loretta Lynn, Reba McEntire and LeAnn Rimes.
Her awards and achievements include: Membership in the Country Music Hall of Fame, one of “The 100 Greatest Women in Rock and Roll”, Number one on “Country Music Television’s 40 Greatest Women of Country Music” and “100 Greatest Singers of all time” (Rolling Stone Magazine).
Most importantly, her music will live on forever.
